A new diaper service from the California Bay Area is producing compostable diapers. EARTH-BABY has developed a way to make leak-free, environmentally-friendly diapers made from corn-based plastic and wood pulp.
The used diapers are run through a high temperatures compost that kills e coli and 14 weeks later, the product breaks down into a top soil.
The service is currently only available in the following areas….
- Atherton
- Menlo Park
- Palo Alto
- East Palo Alto
- Los Altos
- Mountain View
- Sunnyvale
- Cupertino
- Campbell
- Los Gatos
- Cambrian Park
- Willow Glen
The EarthBaby company states “…we are committed to reducing the impact our children have on the environment by eliminating diapers and wipes from landfills.”
The monthly fee is $24.99 and includes delivery, pickup, and professional processing of the compostable diapering products.
A varied selection of diapers, allow you to choose different options as your baby’s needs change. The cost for a 44 count diaper pack… $11.79!
Since the service is not yet available in many areas, you can still purchase the compostable diaper, and dispose of normally, however the process of biodegrading takes a little bit longer -vs- the 14 weeks, it would normally take if you had the service. Still a far better alternative to the existing disposable diapers on the market today, which due to it’s plastic content, take about 500 years to degrade! Americans dump about 50million diapers into landfills EVERY DAY!
